Beginning Therapy

Let's have a short phone call about why you are seeking help. During this call, I will answer any questions you may have about me and the counseling process. If you decide to continue, you will get an email to sign intake forms and provide some basic information.

Scheduling your first session

Your first session is for you and I to get to know each other. I will complete an initial assessment to build a plan for your treatment. It will last about 1 hour. We will spend time speaking about your presenting concerns, personal goals, and history during the assessment.

Accomplishing your goals

After your assessment and treatment plan are completed, we will begin working towards your goals. I will provide a welcoming space to explore your thoughts and settle into a feeling of safety. I will teach you what I know about mental health so you have the tools to meet your needs. This process explores how your past experiences may be affecting your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and examines how your current life circumstances may be playing a role in your distress. I will give you skills to practice in between your sessions to improve your emotional experiences and interactions with others.

Assessments

You may also be in need of a mental health assessment. I will complete a biopsychosocial assessment and provide treatment recommendations with a letter of participation to whom it may concern.
